week 7 and other random thoughts

I started week 7 yesterday (Run 4, Walk 2), which is where I originally started when I switched to mom's program about a month ago.  When I first tried it, I was only able to do 6 intervals.  Last night, I was able to do 9 (not quite the 10 I was supposed to do).  Again, it was really, really hot in the gym.  After the first 3 intervals I was feeling good, the 4th and 5th got tough and then the mental game began.  I kept telling myself - you did 6 last time, you have to at least beat that...now you've done 6, you can at least do 7 - that's 28 minutes of running...well now you only have 3 left...on the eighth interval - this may be your last one, do it good...then on the 9th - just keep going.  But on the 9th I was starting to feel a little lightheaded and dizzy, so I wasn't sure if I'd do the 10th.  The treadmill kind of decided for me.  Once you get to 60 minutes, it says you're done and starts your cool down for you.

So I did 65 minutes total (including warm up and cool down).  I ended up extending some of the walks to 2.5 minutes.  I think I did a total of 36 minutes of running and went almost 5 miles total (with the walking).

I sure hope it's cool in Cinci on the morning of May 5th.  I can't remember if I mentioned this, but we're running on Cinco de Mayo so there should be some Coronas and tacos in our future after the race!

Also, Vince is planning to come cheer us on! Yay!

  1. 60 minutes is plenty of time anyway, right? You are making such progress. Very exciting!

Hadn't thought about Cinco de Mayo. Sounds like a great way to celebrate! And exciting that Vince is coming too. I've arranged to take Friday off so that we can get to Cincinnati to pick up our race packets. Does that work for you guys?

I am heading to the gym this morning. I actually am missing it.
